Forbes is a website that’s basically unreadable at this point

When’s the last time you’ve been on Forbes.com and read an article and thought to yourself, “man, what a pleasant reading experience.” I don’t think anyone can honestly say they have. And lately, it’s just gotten worse. Seriously, if you don’t believe me – head on over to the site right now without an adblocker turned on, click on an article, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It’s absolutely riddled with ads.

I mean, it’s alright. They’re ads, there’s no way around them, and I generally get that’s how websites keep the lights on. But when it gets to the point that it brings my very beefed-up MacBook Pro down to a screeching halt. To the point where the fans in it sound like they’re going to blow up. It’s serious. I don’t know what it is, but it doesn’t sound right, and I’m not OK with it. But like, this is a known thing. I’m not making this up.

When it comes to the ads, I’m not the first person to call Forbes out on this either. There’s tweet, after tweet. Seriously, the list goes on. But the most recent one to grind my gears was tweeted out by Mike Murphy, technology editor over at Quartz

Oh my god, look at that image. Seriously, LOOK AT IT.  Ads practically plague the whole page. Murphy sums it up in his tweet by stating “I guess Forbes doesn’t actually expect u to read its website.” And judging from that image, nope, it looks like Forbes absolutely doesn’t want you to read any content on its website.

I mean, there’s only one obvious answer here: They want you to click on those sweet precious ads. In fact, they NEED you to. In truth, that’s fair, but there has to be another way. How does someone working high up at Forbes say, “yup, I’m comfortable with how this looks.” I mean, I can’t see that happening. But then again, it possibly could.

Just in case someone at Forbes happens to see this, and for some reason they’re ignoring the site’s main Twitter feed, here are some more strongly worded letters:
